Bio
Christina grew up in Central Europe in a family with a special appreciation of the fine arts. Her mother and her sister used to paint with oil. Christina's graduation subject was Impressionism. After high school she considered studying art history and design but, lacking a portfolio, instead raised "four wonderful children" - now adults - three of them still living in Switzerland. "My children are my first loves, but art is my passion." she said. Christina worked in various fields including interior design and fashion. Creating Mardi Gras costumes was her favorite hobby for many years. Now it is taking her two dogs to the beach and watching the sunrise.
In a romantic twist of fate, Christina met her Houstonian husband online and moved to tropical, sunny Galveston. Texas, far from snowy Switzerland, in 2010. "I fell in love with Galveston for many reasons, not only the warm climate and ocean, but also the Victorian architecture, the international and artistic flair of the residents with their love for Mardi Gras and laid-back attitude."
Here she pursued her dream of painting and began studying under the well-known and respected Galveston water-colorist Sallie Anderson. Christina gained valuable knowledge and developed her own style primarily in watercolor and then later in acrylic. Her art reflects a serene realism with a touch of humor. Her attention to detail is demonstrated in her paintings of dogs, cats, houses, flowers and even portraits. Recently, she dabbled in Surrealism and is attracted to a whimsical style which makes you smile.
Christina is inspired by her favorite Artists like Gustav Klimt, Auguste Renoir and Salvador Dali but also by contemporary ones like Raceanu Mihai-Adrian, Martin Karadzhov, Susan Wheeler and many more.
Her moto: "My art is meant to beautify our lives and help us see the bright side. I like to paint uplifting and humorous things that make me smile. Hopefully, they make someone else smile too."
Her signature: "I use my initials CYP, since my name is too long for signing I had to come up with a solution: C stands for Christina, P stands for my maiden name to honor my parents and the bigger Y that stands over all like a protective umbrella is for my hubby who sponsored and supported my painting career."
Christina paints out of her private in-home art studio and taught watercolor classes at Galveston College and Central Christian Church.
Since 2024 she is the manager and curator of AOP Gallery Art on Postoffice in Galveston, TX.
